In 1805, the restoration of ‘Zum Eisvogel’ resulted in one of the most prestigious restaurants of the Viennese Prater. Even at that time the name ‘Zum Eisvogel’ already stood for home-style cuisine at the highest level, a and excellent service, for the utmost in hospitality and quality.
When we breathed new life into the Eisvogel in 2008, we wanted to create a vibrant centre of Viennese cuisine, to spoil our guests as we would like to be spoiled ourselves. We stand for:
Traditional and modern.
Because of the interesting history of the Eisvogel, we carry genuine Viennese cuisine in our hearts. But without falling into nostalgia, at the Eisvogel you will not find a ‘culinary museum’ but rather a vibrant centre of tradition and modernity, harmoniously combined. Our changing monthly menu and theme menu express this.
All-star cuisine without airs and graces
Just as the Prater has long been a melting pot of all the Viennese, the Eisvogel is the culinary home of all the Viennese as well. As far as possible we stay away from ‘just an update here and there’. Instead, we rely on authentic and very high quality cuisine with regional products whenever possible, surrounded by excellent service in an elegant and relaxed ambience.
Surprise & Delight
For us, perfection of taste lies in the simple and genuine, not in an accumulation of very expensive and exotic ingredients. So at our restaurant you will also find such so-called ‘good traditional fare’ as goulash, barley broth or Bauernschmaus. This is something our Viennese guests and tourists truly appreciate. Vienna as it eats!
